Two years after the Sankaty Lighthouse was built the Lighthouse Board investigation judged it one of the best solidly constructed lighthouses in the country. The tower sits 158 feet above sea level and stands 70 feet tall. Some sailors call the Sankaty lighthouse the "Rocket Light", others the "Blazing Star". According to one fisherman the Sankaty Light is bright enough in which to bait a hook at night. This seacoast light, automated now, continues to function. By day it's red stripe serves as a daymark.
