The striated rocks formations of Pemaquid Point look like ocean waves turned to stone. More than a few vessels lost in the fog have sailed up onto them with disastrous results. The thirty eight foot tower stands high on the rocks placing the focal point of light almost eighty feet above sea level. The station still employs it's fourth-order Fresnel lens, Its flashing white light can be seen some fifteen miles away. In its infancy, it took three attempts to build a lighthouse strong enough to withstand the harsh Atlantic storms.
